Extreme cycling race with heart: TOMcase supports Patrick and Peter in the Silk Road Mountain Race 2025
1,920 kilometers, 30,000 meters of elevation gain, temperatures ranging from +39 to -17 degrees Celsius, and altitudes up to 4,000 meters – the Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan is one of the toughest bikepacking races in the world.
Patrick from the Seerose Friedrichshafen cycling club and Peter took on this extreme challenge in August 2025. TOMcase supported them from the very beginning – as a supporter and multiplier for the accompanying fundraising campaign for children with cancer in Kyrgyzstan.
For Patrick and Peter, it wasn't just about arriving – it was about raising awareness with every stage of the journey for children who urgently need medication and medical help.
A race to the limit – supported by TOMcase
The Silk Road Mountain Race is among the premier unsupported bikepacking races. The route: 1,920 km through the Kyrgyz mountains, 30,000 meters of elevation gain, impassable passes up to 4,000 meters, snowfall, and heat up to 39 degrees Celsius.
It's precisely in this environment that we see what really matters: perseverance, reliability, and the right equipment. Values we live by every day at TOMcase – and why we've been supporting the race from the very beginning.
Patrick: Fighting spirit despite cold
Patrick started the race sick – and was close to dropping out on the second day. But he fought back, kilometer by kilometer, until he regained his strength. On the final day, he mobilized all his reserves: 255 km with 3,500 meters of elevation gain in just 18 hours.
After 13 days and 6 hours, he happily rolled to the finish line: "I thought I wouldn't even make it to Checkpoint 1 – and now I'm at the finish. Unbelievable!"
Peter: The Rock in the Surf
Peter relied on experience and cleverness. Instead of forcing his way up strenuous ramps, he utilized his mountaineering strength while walking. With this controlled tactic, he finished the race after 13 days and 23 hours.
Patrick on Peter: "I never had any doubts that he wouldn't make it. His calmness and perseverance are impressive."
A race for a good cause – TOMcase joins in
The actual goal: to raise funds for children with cancer in Kyrgyzstan. Patrick and Peter wanted to raise 10,000 euros – enough to provide 35 children with six months of medication. This goal was already reached before the start. Together with supporters like TOMcase, the goal was quickly doubled: a full year of care!
Donations currently stand at 15,000 euros – and we won’t stop working together.
Why TOMcase is behind the project
Patrick is the nephew of TOMcase founder Thomas Majerle. It was immediately clear to us: This project deserves our full support.
- Because we were excited for Patrick and Peter – before the start, during the race, and at the finish.
- Because we want to create reach so that even more people donate.
- Because we know that extreme missions can only be successful with reliable equipment – and that is exactly our DNA at TOMcase.
